The Joystick Journey ? A.O.T.A. Avenue | The Gnu's Room
This week I write with a heavy heart. I am sad and excited all the same breath. I remember almost 7 months ago when I first began to share my vision and what I wanted to do with my life. I thought that no would care or no one would support and well, The Joystick Journey proved me wrong. I am overly amazed at how many people have supported me through this crazy idea.
I still get a little weirded?out when I go out in public. Either someone stops me and says?something about the blog or the people I am with suggest to the people that they should read it. I have never been one to like attention or anything but this again forced me to venture out and accept the new comfort zone.
A while back, I called my friend TJ?(a SCAD-Atlanta?student and writer with Autism)?and I said, ?Hey! I have this idea and you?re probably going to think I am crazy, but listen.? He sat on the phone quiet as ever as I explained that I wanted to combine his website with The Joystick Journey. I said that the reason was because I felt as though together we could create something bigger and better for the Disability community. He said nothing. I thought, ?Oh?goodness;?he really thinks I am crazy now.? He then said, ?No, I?m here. I am just amazed at the ideas you have and how you think?. We spent the next hour thinking of ideas. It was so amazing because it seemed like our minds synced together and everything kind of fell together.
After many phone conversations, emails, letter writings and video chat calls?I am happy to announce that as of November 1, 2012, the Joystick Journey will have a new home. TJ and I will be launching our own site called Abilities of The?Arts (AOTA). AOTA is a website that will cover all things within the disability community: Writing, Music, Sports, Fashion, Health/Fitness,?etc. The idea that people with disabilities can submit artwork, poetry, stories etc showcasing our abilities beyond challenges. We will also share news and advertise things pertaining to the disability community. ?I am excited because this is everything I could possibly imagine.
With that being said, today is the last?Joystick Journey post on the Gnu?s Room website and until November 1. Follow us on twitter at @AOTAorg and?like our?Facebook?page,?Abilities of the Arts,?for updates and information.
I would like to end this by thanking Tina, who started this journey for me, Kelly?Walker, ALL of my friends and family who have supported me. It is my hope that you will not stop now and support me as I take a huge step in expanding and taking more risks.
